What does a hearing aid fitting include?
Our hearing centres provide a complete hearing assessment and tailors a hearing solution based on your individual needs. Every patient is unique, therefore we consider such variables as type of loss, auditory processing ability, occupational needs, personal lifestyles, ability to handle a hearing device, listening environments, and finances. We provide full hearing assessments on site.
Real Ear Measurements
Real ear measurements (REMs) are extremely important in the hearing aid fitting process as they indicate whether or not your hearing aid(s) is providing enough volume for your individual hearing loss. At our hearing centres, all hearing aid fittings are verified through the use of “Real Ear Measurements” (REMs) unless contraindicated by age, mental acuity, or some physical abnormality of the external ear canal.
What to expect during Real Ear Measurements (REMs):
A small microphone will be placed in each ear canal with your hearing aid(s).
You will be asked to sit very still and quiet while listening to an audio recording specifically designed to target frequencies found in speech. This part of the measurement ensures that you are hearing quiet, moderate, and loud speech sounds appropriately.
You will also be asked to listen to loud tones at varying frequencies. This part of the measurement ensures that loud sounds are not too loud.
If your hearing aid(s) is not providing enough volume OR is providing too much volume at specific frequencies or loudness levels, your audiologist will make adjustments to your hearing aid settings.
Our clinics provide a 30 day adjustment period.
The manufacturer provides up to a 3 year repair warranty on new hearing aids.
Loss & Damage
The manufacturer provides at least a 1 year loss & damage warranty of new hearing aids.
Included within the warranty period of your hearing aid(s) are all in-office appointments for counselling, cleaning, inspection and testing and programming of your device (s) to ensure proper maintenance and function. Home visit appointments can also be arranged.
Follow up Care
We follow your progress and provide counseling on an on-going basis. During your first year of hearing aid use, follow-up appointments occur more frequently to ensure proper use and care. After the first year, appointments are automatically booked on a yearly basis. We also schedule regular hearing assessments every 2 years to monitor your hearing levels and if necessary, re-program your hearing devices based on any changes. We encourage our patients to see us at any time if they have questions and/or concerns.
Other benefits and products are included in your fitting. One of our professional staff will gladly outline these additional benefits for you at the time of your appointment.
